چکیده

Psychologists have developed models of associative learning for more than 30 years. Despite the strong efforts made, they still suffer many shortcomings. We have tried to build an integral model of habituation, the simplest type of learning within the area of associative learning and the basic support for other types. To overcome the deficiencies of traditional models, we have made used of Christiansen Grammar Evolution. This evolutionary technique is capable of automatically search for a target expression (the model) in a given formal language (the formalism of the model). Under this perspective, that we call Automatic Modelling, we have found models of habituation with interesting characteristics.

GAME OF COORDINATION FOR BACTERIAL PATTERN FORMATION: A FINITE AUTOMATA MODELLING

In this paper, we use game theory to describe the emergence of self-organization and consequent pattern formation through communicative cooperation in Bacillus subtilis colonies. The emergence of cooperative regime is modelled as an n-player Assurance game, with the bacterial colonies as individual players. The game is played iteratively through cooperative communication, and mediated by exchan...

A MODEL FOR EVOLUTIONARY DYNAMICS OF WORDS IN A LANGUAGE

Human language, over its evolutionary history, has emerged as one of the fundamental defining characteristic of the modern man. However, this milestone evolutionary process through natural selection has not left any ’linguistic fossils’ that may enable us to trace back the actual course of development of language and its establishment in human societies. Lacking analytical tools to fathom the cr...

MODELLING OF THE PERMEABILITY FOR COLUMNAR DENDRITE STRUCTURES DURING SOLIDIFICATION OF MUSHY ALLOYS

A numerical model has been developed for the determination of liquid flow permeability through columnar dendrite during growth. The model is inclusive two stages, first numerical evolution of the dendrite shape during growth, and second numerical determination of the interdendritic liquid permeability. Simulation results shown which solute concentration by evolution of dendrite shape could resu...

Modeling Syntactic Devices: An Exploration of Language Evolution from Connectionist and Memetic Perspectives

This thesis introduces the subject of language evolution and provides insights into the evolution of several syntactic devices by modeling the acquisition of artificial languages by humans and neural networks. Previous work has shown that some linguistic universals can be learned by sequential-learning devices with no languagespecific biases (e.g., Ellefson & Christiansen, 2000; Christiansen & ...
